A question we often get asked is “how does BOSS alter the Melt flow index (MFI) of recycled plastics?”. As tempted as we are to say its magic, that takes place inside our ‘patented shoogling box’, it isn’t.
Accelerated weathering testing to standard SAE J2527 is another popular weathering test method, which exposes exterior automotive materials to laboratory controlled xenon arc lights.
Colour fastness is a material’s resistance to colour fading when exposed to the environment. In order to ensure the quality of a material, you have to test the material against real-life conditions in which it is likely to face during its expected service life.
The rockwell hardness test is used to measure the ‘hardness’ of a plastic – it’s ability to resist permanent indentation. This information can be ascertained through the use of a loaded ball indenter.
Impact Solutions, through our laboratory, have extensive capabilities and experience in plastic testing. Our facility houses a mix of state of the art plastic testing equipment and bespoke designed plastic testing rigs allowing us to undertake a wide range of different test techniques on plastics. This includes ASTM D638 (technically equivalent to ISO 527 -1) is a testing standard which ascertains the tensile properties of a plastic material.
SAE J2412 is a popular and commonly used accelerated weathering test standard, which exposes automotive interior samples to simulated sunlight using xenon lamps.
An impact test is used to measure toughness, capacity to resist the energy of shock loading or a dynamic impact of a product. Samples inspected under this test method are then checked for signs of deformation, fracturing and ruptures.
It is without any doubt that plastics have been increasingly popular in material selection for plastic products and have found applications in engineering fields spanning from automotive to construction and from biomedicine to packaging of everyday healthcare products. The ease of processing, low cost of production and lightweight characteristics are just a few of the advantages of the plastics when compared to other materials like metals etc.
Thursday 23rd of June 2016, the date where the residents of Britain voted to leave the EU, ultimately beginning the process of Brexit. After the public voted and the decision was made, a question had been raised by many; how will this affect the economy?
Easter is a fantastic time. Spring has arrived, flowers start to blossom and the favoured chocolate covered eggs are beginning to hit the shelves. Continue reading
On Sunday the 4th of March news had broken across the UK that a spy in the UK had been found poisoned on a bench outside a shopping mall in Salisbury, due to a deliberate or accidental leaking of a dangerous chemical.
Thousands of homes awoke recently to water shortages, after failed pipework in the water distribution network led to hundreds of leaks throughout the network. Many of these leaks will have occurred where two pipes are joined to together, because of a pipe joint failure.
September 2017, Impact Solutions hired Hope (17) as a trainee laboratory technician. She joins another two young male trainee lab technicians, Jack (20) and Ewan (20), who are in their second and third year of their apprenticeships. Continue reading
As of Monday 1st January 2018, a new regulation will come into effect banning plastic waste imports into China. Already causing panic, with rubbish building up at UK recycling plants and landfill sites, we look to the government for solutions to stop more plastic pollution in the ocean.
