Job overview

Working alongside our client, a leading 1st tier automotive supplier & manufacturer, we are looking for an experienced Cost Engineer to join their team.

Company overview

  • As a Cost Estimator you will work closely with the technical team to estimate costs for new paint enquiries and ensure all aspects of the painting process are accurately accounted for
  • This position would suit an experienced Cost Engineer with previous experience in a similar role and knowledge of automotive painting processes

Role responsibilities

  • Create internal cost estimations for new paint enquiries
  • Analyzing technical specifications and ensuring that all costs associated with the painting process are accurately accounted for
  • Liaise with paint suppliers to obtain unit costs
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships and stay informed on changes in pricing, discounts and delivery timelines
  • Calculate paint costs based on unit costs and product surface area
  • Estimate secondary costs such as scrap, rework, and polish
  • Present cost estimates to the Commercial Department for review
  • In collaboration with the commercial and technical teams, you will play a role in identifying areas where costs can be reduced or optimized

Qualifications/experience required

  • Experience in costing manufactured products is essential
  • Previous experience in cost estimation or a similar role
  • Knowledge of automotive painting processes is preferable but not essential
  • A background in working with suppliers and cost analysis
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
